Hey ya'll, signal boost!  [livejournal.com profile] forests_of_fire needs help with moving expenses.  Her and her 2 roommates have moved to a new townhouse, but the old landlord is dicking them over on the final month's rent.  (The original entry about the situation is f-locked - I'll let [livejournal.com profile] forests_of_fire decide whether or not to share more details in the comments.)

Please consider purchasing a tarot reading from her to help her out with a little extra income to offset this.  I can attest that she's very good at tarot readings, and has several different decks to choose from.

This isn't targeted at anyone on my friends list, as most people I am close with know this already.  But I need to vent because I have been running into this frequently of late, as recently as this morning, and it is really getting to me right now.

Dear world:

I know I sometimes need to walk with a cane, or limp, or am very tired/in pain.  That does not make me any less capable of making decisions about what I am and am not capable of doing, or about how I want to manage my health.  If I need help, I will ask for it.  Otherwise please kindly leave very well the fuck alone.

Don't force your need to be "helpful" onto me when I have not expressed a need for help.  (And for clarification, joking about my pain/tiredness/weakness is not asking for help.  Self-deprecating humor helps me cope.)  Stop making this about you.  My health concerns are mine, and mine alone.

And when I say I don't want or need help, when I say I am fine - back the fuck off.  Do not repeatedly ask me if I am okay, if I need help, etc. because I already told you that I'm fine.

No love,
me

These are in chronological order, but I'm too lazy to add info about each session ;)

Now I'm feeling a bit whimsical too.

Okay, so I don't usually do this, but this is an issue near and dear to me and this is getting very little no attention in the mainstream media.

Mississippi is voting on November 8th on whether to pass Amendment 26, the "Personhood Amendment". This amendment would grant fertilized eggs and fetuses personhood status.

Putting aside the contentious issue of abortion, this would effectively outlaw birth control and criminalize women who have miscarriages. This is not a good thing.

Jackson Women's Health Organization is the only place women can get abortions in the entire state, and they are trying to launch a grassroots movement against this amendment. This doesn't just apply to Mississippi, though, as Personhood USA, the group that introduced this amendment, is trying to introduce identical amendments in all 50 states.

What's more, in Mississippi, this amendment is expected to pass. It even has Mississippi Democrats, including the Attorney General, Jim Hood, backing it.

The reason I'm posting this here is because I made a meager donation to the Jackson Women's Health Organization this morning, and I received a personal email back hours later - on a Sunday - thanking me and noting that I'm one of the first "outside" people to contribute.

So if you sometimes pass on political action because you figure that enough other people will do something to make a difference, make an exception on this one. My RSS reader is near silent on this amendment. I only found out about it through a feminist blog. The mainstream media is not reporting on it.

If there is ever a time to donate or send a letter in protest, this would be it.

What to do?

- Read up on it. Wake Up, Mississippi is the home of the grassroots effort to fight this amendment. Daily Kos also has a thorough story on it.

- If you can afford it, you can donate at the site's link.

- You can contact the Democratic National Committee to see why more of our representatives aren't speaking out against this.

- Like this Facebook page to help spread awareness.

[personal profile] dancingthroughstars has been having some extra-rough financial times lately and needs to raise some funds.

She's doing tarot card readings in exchange for $$. Readings are $5-25, depending on what kind of reading you want. Details are here:
http://dancingthroughstars.dreamwidth.org/1619.html

Please go check it out and spread the word :)

EDIT: As an added enticement, she's giving one-card readings for free, and some kind souls have donated paid readings that you could win.

I've totally failed to post the Hogwarts Hall of Fame quotes from the last "semester" worth of game nights. So, here they are. I put them in chronological order as best I could. Some of these are clearly contextual, because I can't remember why those are funny anymore.

In the process of packing, I've been finding a lot of things I'd like to sell/give away. (I'd be delighted if you can give me money for things. If you can't, that's fine too - I'd rather give things away than throw them out.)

Things that I am looking to rid myself of:

- a set of shelves (slightly shaky, but otherwise in good condition)
- a futon frame/couch from Ikea, with couch cushions if you want them.
- lots of books (I can send you the list of books)
- a DVD player
- 3 bags of clothes, mostly in sizes 10-12 pants/skirts, S-M shirts

There may be more as I continue packing...keep checking back for an updated list.

I have to be out of the apartment by May 31, after which things are getting donated to Goodwill or thrown out. Also, it would be vastly preferable if you want to pick things up. If you can't (say, you live overseas), I can set aside small things like books for mailing after the move if you're willing to chip in for postage.

Please email or PM me if interested :)

[livejournal.com profile] shadesong's cat Jack needs expensive surgery that her family cannot afford. Any little bit that you can help her with would be most appreciated!

http://shadesong.livejournal.com/4278627.html

Adam just got back from the animal hospital, and here's the skinny:

He definitely has a dental abscess. His jaw is definitely misaligned. We don't know why. When he's under anesthesia, they're going to see what they can find. They are running a shitload of tests - liver, cancer, infection under the abscess, seeing if the abscess has caused anything else. What happens from here will depend on what they find.

The low estimated total is $999.99.

The high estimated total is $1,835.13.

Have I mentioned that we also owe on taxes and for Explo? But Jack is family.

Starting tomorrow and until I have funds to cover Jack's treatment, I will be doing Wind Tunnel Dreams. For those who weren't here for the last round: WTD is a piece of flash fiction or poetry every day.

The theme of this WTD, because I need to be thinking about Shayara because y'know book contract and deadlines, is Shayara. You do not need to know anything about Shayara to prompt me. Random one-word prompts still work, I'll just be writing Shayara stuff out of 'em, so's you know.

If you donate and prompt me, I must use your prompt.

You can still prompt me if you can't donate, and I may use your prompt, but I'll prioritize paid prompts. If you don't have a prompt but are donating anyway, you can sponsor someone else's prompt.

There will also be a small auction. We have some collectible books, I have BPAL, I have stuff I've knitted (and I'm willing to do custom knitting). I am so not thinking about that tonight; we'll have to deal with it tomorrow.

You can leave your prompts here. If you donate, please also include your prompt in the PayPal notes field, because I may not know your legal name and want to make sure I get to your prompt if you paid for it!

Thank you and I am going to go curl up in a ball now.

Please go to her journal to donate (she has a PayPal button on this entry that isn't copying) and leave writing prompts. Thanks a ton!

"There's a hole in this cake!"

I would greet them with baked goods, but maybe not a bundt. Not everyone gets the bundt cake. Maybe biscuits, or chocolate cake. Who doesn't like chocolate?
